On August 5, 2013, the fourth annual Virginia Software Summit was held on the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. This year’s summit agenda included presentations on Security and Cloud Services, software alternatives in open source and Software as a Service models, a panel discussion on transparency in the higher-ed/vendor relationship, and a presentation on applying models to software licensing. The Summit concluded with a presentation and discussion on developing a framework for higher-ed participants to more effectively collaborate on software licensing. The mix of vendor participants and representatives from higher-ed public and private institutions lead to positive discussions on how to modify licenses to make them more useful to the changing needs of institutions, students, faculty and administrators.
Detailed 2013 Summit notes and resources for individual sessions will be available soon. Archived notes from the 2010, 2011, and 2012 Summits are also available in the Summit Archives section of this site.
